Ride Description

Nelson Ride 16 - 18 November 2018

CANTERBURY ANNIVERSARY WEEKEKND RUN TO NELSON

This year’s run to Nelson will be the sixth time the run will take place.

As for previous years we are suggesting a booking at the Cedar Grove Motor Lodge which is perfectly situated at the edge of the City Centre. The accommodation is modern, and very comfortable. In addition, it provides a venue with ample secure and covered parking for the Harleys.

Contact details are as follows:- Cedar Grove Motor Lodge / Email: [email protected] / Ph 0800 233 274 or (03) 545 1133 or make you own arrangements elsewhere.

Tentative weekend arrangements in brief:
Friday 16 November - Depart 0900 (Christchurch – Nelson) – from Caltex Russely Rd
Inland route: Arthurs Pass – Lake Brunner/Moana – Reefton – Murchison – Nelson.

Coffee, food and fuel stops on the way and by consensus on the day. Evening meal in Nelson town (pre dinner drinks at Cedar Grove then an easy walk in to town).

Saturday 17 November – Ride the Takaka Hill to Collingwood or Farewell Spit. The Takaka Hill is ranked No 3 of New Zealand’s Top 10 Roads. Usually, we will ride a bit of the Upper Moutere Valley then ride the 35km long Takaka Hill Highway (862m-elevation). Warren Dellow of Nelson has offered to take a shorter ride to Kaiteri or Lake Rotoiti, if the Hill isn’t for you. If you are not keen on riding on Saturday, there are plenty of attractions within the Nelson area to keep you entertained. Similar to Friday, gather for pre-dinner drinks at Cedar Grove and then a meal in Nelson Town.

Sunday 18 November – Weather permitting an around the block approach will be taken with a moderately early (0800) start riding through to Havelock (75km) for breakfast down on the marina – The Slip Inn. From past experience this has offer great food, coffee and views. From there it is on home via Blenheim and Kaikoura.

There’s a run Patch $10,00
Year Bar $5.00
